C.O.M.E. – Celebration of Mission Event – 2022

Message from our C.O.M.E. Coordinator:

06/21/2022

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
I do not know about you, but Annual Conference always provides me with a sense of renewal and rejuvenation. The Bishop indicated in her State of Church Address that there are many opportunities in the West Virginia Annual Conference for mission and ministry. And so, I am writing in that regard. I have taken on the role of Coordinator for C.O.M.E. in THE Potomac Highlands District. Yes, we are getting a late start for 2022, but I have the confidence that many of the churches in the District have continued the good work.

With all that is on a pastor’s plate, I would ask each church/charge if there is at least one person in your building who is excited about missions. Would they be willing to be a contact person for me? If so, would you be willing to provide me with their name, phone number or email address.  Hopefully, this would eliminate the need for me to continuously contact you.
My contact information is as follows:

Charles W. May

cmay304@hotmail.com  304-290-8600

701 Baltimore Avenue

Mountain Lake Park, Maryland 21550

Additionally, I would like to ask if your church/charge treasurer could also provide me with the dollar amounts that may have already been submitted to the Conference Treasurer on behalf of C.O.M.E. for 2022? This information is necessary for a district report later this year. If you have been unable to contribute at this point, would you have the church/charge treasurer indicate that as well. I am excited about the possibilities that exist in THE Potomac Highlands and I pray that God will use each of us as an instrument for His glory. If I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and together let us build bridges and make connections!

Blessings and Peace,

Charles W. May

Pastor, Bethel United Methodist Church

How will you support C.O.M.E. this year?

Celebration of Mission Event has changed in the life cycle. Yet, this is still an active giving area in the West Virginia Annual Conference and the Potomac Highlands District.

Let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.                        I John 3:18 NIV

What is Celebration of Mission Event?

THE CELEBRATION OF MISSION EVENT IS:

  • An opportunity for all persons and churches to present the fruits of our faith, labor, and commitment to the support of our United Methodist Mission Ministries: Conference Mission Projects, Church and Community Ministries, Volunteers in Mission, and the New Vision Depot Disaster Response.
  • Reaching out to help the needs of our annual conference through local fundraising and by gathering material goods for mission kits, food for hungry persons, and providing for other needs as they arise.
  • Celebrating the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to do good in this world as the Body of Christ, and the joy of working together to help meet the needs of thousands of persons served by our Mission Ministries.

2022 Celebration of Mission Promotion – 25th Anniversary  “$25 for 25”

Our Conference Mission Ministries are dependent upon the cash funds and tangible goods received from the Celebration of Mission Event, and readily express their gratitude for the support given them. By their generous response over the past 25 years, and more recently during a pandemic, the churches and individual members of the WV Conference have demonstrated their confidence in the work of our mission ministries and continue to generously support them. This year, the Celebration of Mission Event will be promoting a “$25 for 25” theme, encouraging all persons who are able to give $25 for the support of the ten mission ministries during 2022. This would be $2.50 per mission.

On behalf of the Conference Mission Ministries, thank you for your continued prayers, gifts, and involvement in these vital ministries.
